When Felix, an Uplander from a Noble family, is accused of a horrendous crime, he is sentenced immediately to banishment to the Underneath. The Uplands is considered high society and a 'better place to live' while the Underneath is a marsh pit of crime and disaster. He is broken through the barrier between the Uplands and the Underneath and soon realizes that it's an eat or be eaten situation.
