I guess you could say we are an unlikely bunch, but we still pull together and find a way to rumble on through. There's me, Birdie, or Birdie Skydream as my friends think is just the funniest thing ever, because their lack of creative abilities put my chosen career choice, pilot and my "dreamy" nature together. There is Terrence, tall, lanky and a pothead. Obsessed with politics and missing his pet possum, Odon. There is Dayanara, curvy, beautiful and totally unaware of it. All she wants to do is drink and save the animals, oh and the kids. Big Zed, her partner in crime, also trying to save animals and kids, but a beeraholic instead. A beefy guy with bad skin and a model smile. Garith, who doesn't really count. Wisconsin, an impression extraordinaire who despises all planned performance. He likes to be the centre of attention, without actually being it.

COMPLETE Let me make this crystal clear, because you don't seem to understand," he said, his voice deceptively calm, but laced with venom. "I paid for you to be my wife. That means you do what I say. You're mine now." He flicked a check toward me, and it fluttered to the ground between us. I couldn't look away from him, though my chest tightened in panic. My hands shook as I fought back tears, refusing to let him see me break. But he wasn't finished. "What did you expect?" he scoffed, eyes narrowing. "This is what gold diggers like you get. Money has a price, and now you're paying yours. Enjoy it, wife." Without another word, he turned and walked away, leaving me standing in the massive, empty living room-speechless, breathless, and drowning in disbelief. I never expected this. © MaryRose 2018.
