24. P O W E R : Broken Heart
Delvis Billiard is your typical laid-back computer-loving sci-fi geek. He loves his job, he loves Safe Haven, and he loves his fellow geek and fiancée Alice Jenkins. To put it simply, life is good.
Until... it isn't.
When the Devourer arrives in Safe Haven, tragedy strikes. Alice is brutally murdered after Billiard leaves her behind during what he assumed was an emergency drill, and the crushing guilt that results from his actions renders Billiard unable to carry on his duties as a Xirxine monitor. His focus is no longer on keeping Safe Haven Safe. Now, he is obsessed with only one thing: REVENGE.
To obtain that revenge, there will be some hoops to jump through--and Billiard is more than willing to do whatever it takes to hunt down the Devourer and end her once and for all. However, in his pursuit of vengeance, he forges an unforeseen alliance that might just be the key to mending his broken heart.
Meanwhile, Veronika struggles with the consequences of her actions. The voices and faces of those she's Purged haunt her relentlessly, making it increasingly difficult to sleep at night. Nevertheless, her zeal for the doctrine of the Saved spurs her on, even as new enemies (like the grieving fiancé of one of her victims) join the hunt for her head.
The burden of her destruction is not one Veronika can bear alone, however. It might take some convincing, but sooner or later, Veronika will have to realize that she needs a shoulder to lean on--and one of the Crusaders seems all too eager to offer it.
One's heart is broken, one is the breaker. It won't be long before they cross paths in an explosive showdown that's bound to make your heart race...
