The enemy has acquired a map that leads to the complicator, a legendary device said to contain the power to reshape the earth. But even with fate, and a newly discovered family history at his back, Michael learns he can't succeed without the help of his unassuming office assistant. Debora proves to be more than just the quiet office help, and Michael can never look at her the same again. The first in a series of fantasy novellas, this story is set in an alternate world of steampunk-esque qualities, such as airships, paddle-wheel boats and secret machines buried deep in the earth. Michael and Debora's mission takes them from the Great City to the canyons of Wind Quarry where they face the stark question- Is fate a friend or a foe?
