Her name is Sofia Petrova and she is one of Katherine's daughters, she is Nadia's fraternal twin but Nadia get taken away . Elijah Mikaelson is her father  and not Nadia's only Katherine knows that Sofia is his daughter. On the day before her 17th birthday her mother gives her a cup of blood but tells her it's wine. After she drinks it her mother says this is so we can see each other again my Sofia, we will meet again some day. Then she snapped her neck and vanished. (around the same time when Katherine was running from Klaus, but Sofia was born in 1490 before Katherine turned, and Katherine came and left to take care of Sofia back in Bulgaria but still hiding Sofia from Klaus because she's not a doppelgänger but does have Petrova blood and original running through her veins. 

Now it's been over a thousand years and Sofia has been searching for her mother and her twin. Her searching comes to a hault when she meets the two Salvatore brothers and finds out who her father is.
