in a small state of north carolina there is a group of five friends, and among the eight hundred students who attend glen view high these teens are nothing memorable. they aren't the group of nerds who get their names in the papers, or the athletes who get their faces on tv. they are the not too popular, not too geeky kids who live in everyone else's shadow. or that's what everyone thinks, though they do manage to turn a few heads, each of them probably belonging perfectly to one of the cliche high school sterotypes, but deciding to band together in a strange pack that has been inseparable for almost four years. but one night they decide to go a little off track on their way home, and run into something they would have never imagined. the neighborhood nobodies quickly start to raise suspicion as their lives change completely. sebastian, alaska, nico, margo, and mordecai are in for the adventure they have been waiting for. after they discover something in the woods they feel... different, and their boring lives turn into an unpredictable roller-coaster as they attempt to keep a unbelievable secret while figuring out just what they are capable of. as well as building a bond with each other that would be stronger than ever. these nameless group of kids may find out who they are and what they are worth after all. "When adults say, "Teenagers think they are invincible" with that sly, stupid smile on their faces, they don't know how right they are. We need never be hopeless, because we can never be irreparably broken. We think that we are invincible because we are. We cannot be born, and we cannot die. Like all energy, we can only change shapes and sizes and manifestations. They forget that when they get old. They get scared of losing and failing. But that part of us greater than the sum of our parts cannot begin and cannot end, and so it cannot fail." - john green

"You shouldn't need to drink to try and drown your feelings Kayla. I've watched the people around me do this all my life and it doesn't fix anything." "I know it won't fix anything, but for right now it helps me forget" "You can't keep running away or hiding. In the end it all catches up." "You sound like you've been through this before." "I guess you could say that." "You want me to open up to you, but are you ever going to open up to me? I want to get to know you Tyler, but you are so closed off. You know why I got knocked over by that wave? Because I was watching you, I was watching your face and seeing how free you felt riding that wave. It's the only time I've ever seen you let go. You know that someone hurt me, but I think you have been hurt too. When you're ready to talk, I'll be waiting. Maybe we can help each other." "Maybe I'm not worth getting to know" he replied. "And maybe I'm not worth you trying to save me either. Or maybe I am" With that I got up and left him to think about what I said. I put my cards on the table, now it was up to him to make the next move. ******** A year ago, Kayla had it all, doting parents and a relationship with her older brother that others envied. By the end of junior year that changed, she's left broken after a series of events in her life, but she is determined to hide her pain from her friends and enjoy the summer. That is until she meets Tyler, who can see right through the hurt. He has his own secrets though and isn't ready to let anyone in. Together they will either fall apart or fall together.
