The heavy silence was cut with the sweet song of a bell. The heart stopping melody played though the air and quickly turned into frantic clattering. Joseph sat still and let out the breath he had been holding. His feet caught up with his head and he bolted towards the shed meters from his spot. His heart beat fell in time with the bell almost like a metronome. His sweat covered hand griped a shovel and he forced his feet to move towards the awaken body. This was Joseph's job. To watch the dead.

Sandalwood incense bombarded her when she walked through the double paned doors of her 'side job.' The smell would always linger on her plain green V-neck and jeans afterwards-her friends said it reminded them of a funeral home. They weren't too far off. Except the polished marble floors, she stepped across, and the poised, elegant woman that greeted her with a sharp smile, belonged to that of a blood donation clinic for dead people... A suspenseful vampire short story. Enjoy!
