Ariel and Luke have been best friends since before they could walk. Luke's mom and Ariel's mom have been friend's since college so it was only necessary that their children became the best of friends.
Ariel doesn't feel the same way about Luke anymore, she wants to be more than friends, way more than friends.
Luke felt nothing with Ariel other than a friendship type of love. He's a big player, but when he finally settles down he takes Ariel's heart with him.
