"I thought you were gone for good," I spat, not caring how harsh I sounded right now.

"Well, I mean, I-I was, but I...  wanted to come back..." He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly and stared at the ground, taking sudden interest in a piece of dirt on the floor.

"Why? Why would you? Do you have any idea how.. how... inappropriate this is?" I no longer minded that we were in public. I hope people sees us. Sees me, standing up for myself.

"Because..." His voice cracked and he restarted, "because I miss you."

Mackenzie Richards has a nice life, when she doesn't think about the past. She's all about keeping her focus on a certain goal and staying on that path until she reaches the end. She was really good at it, too.

Until someone from her past comes back.
