Despite Nagisa wanting to recruit Rei on the swim team.
Both of them start to develop romantic feelings for each other, but they kept it at that.

"Let's keep it to flirting, ne~?"

Rei starts to realize that Nagisa doesn't go to swimming practice. And to top it off, Nagisa is usually nowhere to be found at practice. Rei finally has the courage to confront the club about this.

["Where's Nagisa?" Rei asks.

They look at each other, communicating by eye contact. "Well, I guess we had to tell you sooner or later, for quite a long time, Nagisa..."]
