The Griffons of Ollikar have lived a peaceful life for centuries, with each clan promising to help the others in times of need.

But when a young Bastian is caught trespassing on their lands, the Griffons become suspicious of foul play and begin to turn on each other in their panic.

Nordic wants an escape, to get away from all of his responsibilities and duties thrust upon him as prince of Forest Clan. He is fed up of being depended on and and anxious to get away from the father he could never please.

Sapphira has nothing to hold her back. She is reckless and stubborn, intelligent and strong; the perfect soldier in the King's battalion. She is a fighter through and through, willing to la down her life for the safety of the land. Despite all of this, she leaves with Nordic in a heartbeat. There is nothing holding her back, all she wants is a good fight.

Swift is a disgrace to his family; puny and impish, unworthy of the Bastian name. He is treated more like a slave than a prince, living in the shadow of his older siblings and keeping to the sidelines as much as he can. He knows he won't be missed if he leaves, so why does he continue to stay?

The Bastian king has the power to destroy the Griffons and rule all of Ollikar. He is capable and willing to wipe them all out and take his 'rightful place' as King of the Clans. The Bastians are fed up of their inferior existence and they refuse to live in the pits of their world any longer.
