Dakota Cole Stokes is 18, the War of Wolves and Vampires have been going on for thousands of years. Throwing the world back into another dark age, as of this, humans have been caught in the middle and fight both Wolves and Vampires. Dakota was raised by her father and mother, along with her older brother and older sister. That all changed when she turned 9 years old. The war was getting closer to her family's small farm. Its a hazy memory for Dakota, but she remembers the vampires busting to her home and demanding their help to fight for their side. When her father refused the blood suckers became furious at what they saw as betrayal. Dakota's brother and father tried to fight the beasts off. It was no use, the creatures of the night ripped through them, as her mother hid her, a nine year old Dakota, below the floor boards under a dresser. Her mother and sister didn't make it either, just not able to hide quick enough and taken away to help war efforts. Now at 17, she is going off to war for the wolves to fight the dreaded leeches, but with just one change. She's going under the disguise of a boy.

He stepped closer. ''Because all of the worst monsters come out during a full moon.'' ------ Lou DeVue has known from a young age that she was different and not in the 'I-think-I-was-left-on-my-parents-doorstep-by-a-wizard' kind of way. She can see things. Dark things, usually. The darkest, of which, happens to be about her new neighbors. The five boys hold an energy that Lou's gift can't ignore. An abyss surrounds them and Lou finds herself gazing into it, but what happens when the abyss gazes back? **********************
