Nelly Karter is the normal almost Junior in her family. Her mom and dad are famous Paranormal Investigators, while Nelly doesn't believe in any of the thing they search for. They've looked for the yeti, ghouls, The Jersey Devil, and more then a few elves. Her little brothers, Oliver and Jim, are more then willing to join in with the crazy family business. She loves her family, but every few months they up root their lives and move.

Now, Nelly has to leave her friends again and move to Connecticut. To her surprise, despite her creepy Victorian Manor, she starts to befriend Mark, the boy across the road. He's the first friend that REALLY gets her, his family are treasure hunters. Before long, they're inseparable.

However, one day when the two of them are looking after four year old Oliver, he is kidnapped because they made him go into the woods. Nelly doesn't believe it, but the kidnapper might not have been human...

As Mark and Nelly search for Oliver, Nelly must face her worst nightmares, and embrace her talents that she never knew she had. Friendships, family, and the meaning of "home" lie in the balance...along with her little brothers life.
