Kaneki has always loved books, therefore his idealism and expectations sometimes get the better of him; though he truly does know he's not in a book, wouldn't it be so great if he got the one good story he'd hoped for for so long? Ken admired upperclassman Hideyoshi Nagachika. Leaving notes on his locker every day was the only way to show it. For him, that is. Call it cliché if you'd like, but to Kaneki it was a way of expressing his feelings whilst running away from them. Aside from all of the torment he receives from his classmates, Kaneki still clings onto the single shred of hope he has left; And they don't even know his name.
