Castiel’s eyes filled with tears. Looking down at the note. The damn note that ruined everything. How could something so insignificant as a piece of paper with words on it cause so much devastation. He let a few tears fall shamelessly. His heart was breaking and all he had to show for it was a note.
The damn note that ruined everything.
Dean made a mistake, and he's taking matters into his own hands to make up for it. Starting with leaving a note on the table in the kitchen, and then just leaving. If he's not around he can't hurt Castiel, right?

The choice had been easy. It hadn't even been a choice, really. He had everything planned out in his head, the materials he'd need, the words he had to learn, the silent goodbyes he had to say. Everything had gone according to plan, the candles placed in a circle throwing their flickering light on the walls of his room at the bunker, illuminating the marks that had appeared on his body as he recited the words, marking him as a soul worthy and willing to sacrifice its light for the life of many. He had not planned for the door to burst open suddenly, pushed so forcefully it slammed against the wall, the rush of air blowing out some of the nearer candles and bathing the corners in darkness. He hadn't planned for Dean to stand in the doorway, his expression a mixture of worry, disbelief and anger. He hadn't planned for his heart to constrict quite so painfully at the sight of those green eyes staring at him, so hurt as they took in Cas' surroundings, so desperate and accusatory as they met Cas' own. ~oOo~ Or the one where Dean and Cas are self-sacrificing idiots, forcing them to finally use their words and admit some truths.Complete

Dean could still hear it, even now that they had been back for a few weeks. He could see the horror on Cas' face, the panic. He could hear the pain in his voice, recalled how it had twisted and turned in the depths of his eyes and contorted his features. He could still feel his own body go numb with hurt and shame, only to come alive with pain and dread once Cas told him about it. He hadn't been able to say it. He'd finally been ready to say it. But he didn't. Couldn't. Cas had begged him. Had begged him not to. "Dean. Please, if you're about to say what I think you are- please. Please, you can't-" Dean had waited so long to be able to say it, had fought and denied and swallowed those words, those feelings so many times. Grocery Lists and Scattered Scars(destiel)
Destiel, Sabriel, soulmate AU Main focus is Destiel because I'm trash👌 ~~~ The scars littered Castiel's arms and body, but he wasn't the one who put them there. The neat handwriting reminding him to go to the grocery store and buy eggs and milk appeared on Dean's forearm once every few weeks, but he didn't need to buy those things. ~ The childish drawings of lollipops and scribbles were always on Sam's hands, yet he didn't ever put a bright pink pen anywhere near his fingers. The words 'stop by the band room' always reminded Gabe he needed to get his instruments to practice at home, though he didn't play any instruments. ~ (I'm not creative haha I've just read a lot of these and wanted to try!)
