This story is set during the 1910 to the 1930's when many African American's were moving to Chicago from Mississippi. They were moving because Chicago had more opportunities for African Americans. This time was called the Great Migration. This short story is about a young women trying to make her way in this unknown world.

I felt his hand as it gently pushed the strands of hair that were blocking his view of my face, behind my shoulder. The action caused his fingers to involuntarily graze my jawline and neck making me stiffen. The short contact left my body feeling warm and my breathing to suddenly turn irregular. "I think you look beautiful." He said in that deep, soft voice that made me feel funny. I could still feel his fingers in my hair as they now seemed to instinctively move around the strands. "Thank you.." I whispered, surprised at how softly it came out. Could he even hear it? "My pleasure mamas." He replied, giving me my answer. The words leaving his lips sounded so good that I had to look to make sure he'd actually said them. Before I knew it my body was slowly leaning towards him and even in my dazed state I didn't miss his inching towards mine. β’ β’ β’ Follow Athena Kingman as she experiences life and love in ways that she's never imagined before. This is the story of a young woman growing and learning what it means to fully undergo all of the "New Heights" that come with living out your own journey and the stories friendship, companionship and self-love bring about. Color Me Bruised
Set in the 1800's, colonial America, this is the story of Mercy Peters, an African American slave woman who gets sold throughout the south and ends up meeting a white man---that ends up changing her life. This story will be more raw than my other stories because I feel so strongly about slavery , and the life of a woman during that time. Enjoy. Might me inappropriate for younger viewers. Guys, I hope the way the story is written does not offend anybody. I only based the way she speaks on excerpts I read in my AP U.S history class. It gets better later on in the story. Again, I have no rude intentions in this story. I am a black person myself and although I am not African-American, I can relate.Complete

From the moment they laid eyes on each other. They knew, something about one another seemed oddly familiar and whatever it was, they weren't going to stop obsessing over one another.
