Meet Hope, a girl who's life does not match her name. She's a confident but curious girl who has no friends, her parents left when she was young and now, she lives with her abusive uncle, pretty much the only being in the world that appreciates her is her cat Prince. Hope has always wondered why her parents ever did leave her and where they went? But she has two things that keep her going, her cat and one of her few hobbies, sailing. 
  
  On her fifteenth birthday, Hope gets her own sail boat from the lady that works at the marine, Mrs. Gormley. Hope decides to go for a sail, staying close to the mainland,  but suddenly, she gets locked in the bottom deck with her cat while a storm hits the boat. She ends up on an island called 'Malida' and it has three barriers with three different people's. 
  
  Cler, the people of Gold, Mri the people of nature and Leu, the people of fire. Each clan has a ruler, they are princess Cali, prince Elijah and princess Aura. Hope is faced with lots of challenges to get back home. 
  
  On her way, she discovers clues to her parents presence on the island and discovers that she was not an only child. Hope meets a boy named Xander who helps her try to get back home, and the two friends, become much more. This book has a number of genre's from adventure, to romance, to fantasy and is definitely worth trying out. enjoy :)
