Daniel James Howell wasn't a masochist, a sadist, or suicidal. Thank you very much, he just liked to think he was realistic. Love was not thing, happiness was always only temporary, people will change, we are all born to die. Dan believes these words, not because he wanted to or because he was forced to. It was simply because he had no other reason not to. They were there so long that it just seemed to implant itself in his brain. These words had become his guidelines and he would be damned if he let other people tell him otherwise. It's not until Philip Michael Lester a person that he had never known existed gets paired with him in debate class that he starts to question the words that have taken over his life.
