Young Love

We were best friends at the age of five who met on opposite sides of a fence. Sharing crayons and toys for a way to entertain ourselves because we believed in order to stay friends with someone was to share what they own. Most of our time was spent sitting in our own yards with a fence in the middle of us. Maybe even sometimes he'd come over and we'd play any game that five year olds would play. Until he moved away and an elderly couple moved into his house that was right next door to mine.

"I'll give you a call when I get there," a whole new state. He was moving a whole state away. "I won't forget about you." We were stood in the spot we always were when we were kids, staring sadly at one another.

He never did call me. I never spoke to him since that day, in fact, I never even heard his name. He was just a part of my childhood, that was all. And friendships don't last forever.
