Set after AoU (actually after the fic Breaking the Shield but it’s not required reading).
Loki is King of Asgard, Odin is missing/dead and Thor is being held in the dungeon (in Breaking the Shield he was banished to Jotunheim, escaped to earth to join the Avengers and was captured again by Loki).
Megan Beckett is brought in by Fandral, undercover as his handmaiden. She has some ability in recognising illusion and mind control and the hope is that Loki will be too curious to overlook her. Her mission is to gain his trust, find out the truth about Odin and have Thor released.
