I'm only releasing this story on Wattpad only. I'll put up a new chapter every 5 - 10 days so you'll have them all soon. If this story gains attention, I'll write the next two books in the series ~ On Sophie Night's 21st birthday she is diagnosed with an extremely rare and degenerative psychological disorder that after taking its course will leave her a mentally mangled mess. While life had always been pretty mundane for Sophie, two days before her birthday her illness causes a sudden change in personality that manifests as volatile mood swings, hallucinations and bizarre delusions. This drives an almost irreparable wedge between her and her friends and family leaving her psychologically damaged and vulnerable. Sophie, ordinarily, could deal with most things being the very rational person she is – besides she’d always been a little different after all, she preferred to stay home reading Nietzsche, Aristotle and Socrates instead of partying. Lara and Will Sophie’s two best friends accepted her odd stoic literal nature. But their support wavers as her terrifying psychotic episodes intensify. Sophie’s dreams become more and more lucid and she meets a man that comforts her through her dreams and sometimes in her waking life. Additionally Sophie meets Oliver, a fellow troubled but temporary self-admitted patient with a big secret, during her stay at the local hospital psych wing. He becomes Sophie’s only friend and as her symptoms intensify leaving her mind and body permanently altered, his support is constant, but Oliver isn’t there by accident. In the realm of the psychological distortion that turns her reality inside out, she must find a sense of control in the nightmare that becomes her life -- a sense of reality that isn’t based in the real world. But all this is much bigger than she realises…so big that she almost loses herself entirely.

Lara has always lived in the shadows, convinced she isn't enough. The world feels overwhelmingly loud, too vivid, and far too big for someone like her. She hides from attention, avoids risks, and sees herself through a lens of self-doubt, her flaws magnified and her worth invisible. Life in the background feels safer, even if it means missing out on connection and joy. When a group project pairs her with Nathan, her confident and charismatic classmate, Lara's carefully guarded world begins to shift. Nathan exudes ease and charm, surrounded by friends whose laughter and effortless connection make her feel even more out of place. Yet, his quiet kindness and surprising attentiveness draw her in, challenging her belief that she doesn't belong. For the first time, Lara begins to wonder if maybe, just maybe, she's not as invisible as she thought. As she spends more time with Nathan and his friends, Lara slowly starts to open up. Their warmth chips away at her defenses, but it also forces her to confront her fears. She struggles with feelings of inadequacy and questions whether she's truly deserving of the attention and affection she's receiving. Her growing feelings for Nathan only intensify this internal conflict-can someone like him really see her as worthy, and more importantly, can she see herself that way? Encouraged by her steadfast best friend Bea and Nathan's quiet support, Lara begins the painful but necessary journey toward self-acceptance. It's a battle fought not against others but within herself. She starts to realize that her worth isn't defined by perfection or others' opinions but by embracing who she truly is. Lara's story is one of identity, courage, and breaking free from self-imposed limitations. It's about stepping out of the shadows and discovering that the hardest battles often lead to the brightest transformations. Will she claim her place in the world or retreat to the safety of the background?
