Fifteen years after the war, nineteen year old Magnolia has to care for the sick girls born to poor families, like her own. Though her mother and father died in the long lost war, she has her mentor and friend, Nel. She also has her young friend, thirteen year old Sofia, whom she treats as her own sister.
However, when Magnolia becomes sick, she must venture to the lands owned by the wealthy. She will have to marry so she may cure herself and protect the young girls back at her home.
She is surprised by what she feels for one man, thinking she could never love someone who took part in the killing of her parents. But her love for this man is interrupted by a better offer.
Magnolia will have to choose between her feelings for the stranger or for the girls back home, but which will she choose?
