Preface:
Ness had often contemplated how she would die, and with good reason. Being the adrenaline junky that she was, she was all too familiar with near death experiences. But this wasn’t one of her dangerous stunts. She stared through squinted hazel eyes across the small room at the hunter, and he looked pleasantly back at her, a crooked smile playing at his lips.
Ness wasn’t thrilled about the idea of dying by any means, however she knew it was bound to happen eventually, and if she could help it, she wanted to go out with a bang. Dramatically, and memorable, like in the movies. Something worthy of being on the local news that night. Still, she never imagined she’d be so young.
The hunter grinned sinisterly as he sharpened his tool.
This was a good way to die too. In fact, it was even better. In the place of someone else, someone she loved. It was heroic, noble.
Ness rested back on the cool brick wall behind her and smiled. Just mere months ago, she’d been completely miserable in this town. Now, as she sat there ready to die, she couldn’t bring herself to regret the decision of moving there.
The hunter raised his weapon as he closed the distance between them and sauntered over to end her.

The fear that I just barely managed to suppress earlier is now clawing its way back up to the surface, rearing its ugly head once again, and hits ten times harder than before.
