Areum Rutherford's mother was born in New York. And so was everyone else in Monica Carlson-Rutherford's family since god-knows-when. Her father's family is much the same, just replace New York with California and the story doesn't change.

That having been said, people tend to wonder why their daughter is Korean.

There is nothing wrong with the reproductive systems of either of my parents. Neither of them has a disease or injury preventing them from having a child of their own.

Monica and Charles Rutherford may act like they are Good Samaritans for the public, but they honestly couldn't care less. They didn't adopt a poor little orphan because she needed a family, they adopted her for much more selfish reasons.

It's quite simple actually:
1.) Monica doesn't want to put on baby weight.

2.) Charles doesn't want to deal with a pregnant Monica.

3.) Adoption looks good to the outside world.

Notice I never said they wanted kids.
