Dark Choices (Rurouni Kenshin Fanfiction)

What if Kaoru Kamiya's and Kenshin Himura's first meeting was planned? Things don't always appear as a coincidence as Kaoru learns she is not the same person Kenshin, Sanosuke Sagara and Yahiko Myoujin come to know while staying at the Kamiya residence. Kaoru harbors a huge family secret and she hides a dark past that will threaten the people close to her.

In the meanwhile, an untimely foe appears with plans to conquer Japan during the Meiji Era, beginning with Kyoto. The Japanese government requests for Kenshin's help to defeat his successor from the bloody times of the Bakumatsu, Shishio Makoto. He has to leave everyone and everything behind in Tokyo to travel to Kyoto. However, trouble is closer to home when Kaoru realizes that the one person, Kenshin, she has grown closer to is in fact the enemy. Will she choose her family ties or her romantic interest?
