Julia and Dakota travel out of their home city to a nearby jungle, on their emporer's orders to find a mage and kill her. On the way they meet a dragon, a Garkul, and three trolls. A mysterious teenage girl that refuses to tell Julia and Dakota her name helps them out with some of their troubles. When they get back to the city, however, all kinds of trouble has been aroused in their absence. People call the mysterious girl ElfCat, for that is what she is, or CatFish, because she loves swiming. ElfCat makes friends and enemies in her school, but wonders about her home. Reality is closing in on itself, but only ElfCat and her friends seem to notice.
