Acornpaw is an apprentice in BirchClan, a clan of cats who thrive in a birch forest filled with wildflowers and herbs. She travels with her clan to attend her third gathering. Cherrystar, the leader of BirchClan, is announcing the news of the clan. Suddenly, a shriek is heard from the bushes. The cats race over to investigate the yowl, and find Emberpaw, Acornpaw's sister, dead on the ground. From here, one apprentice must find the murderer and get revenge on her sister's death.
