Selena has striven to be a normal teenage girl, but she has struggled with deafness since age four. She caught meningitis at age three and was not treated quick enough, causing her to cumulatively lose her hearing completely. She is capable of reading lips as well as talking (with a speech impediment) since she knew how to talk before the virus spread, although they still make her have an interpreter with her in each class while attending school to keep up. Meanwhile unknowingly she has caught the eye of Zack, the boy who is not only a 4.0 student but the quarterback of the football team. To anyone's surprise he is truly shy when it comes to Selena, it has been six months since she has moved to Havenwood High and he still hasn't worked up the courage to say anything. Until one day when she is being picked on by a group of 'popular' girls.
