    O mundo foi dividido em pequenas comunidades, na verdade é só um nome mais bonito para aquelas prisões, onde ninguém tem escolha, onde ninguém vive de verdade. 
      Numa sociedade separada por semiatans - que são 20% da população - e por tortuos. Os semiatan controlam absolutamente tudo, o mundo é deles. Enquanto que os tortuos vivem em comunidades em condições precárias e sem liberdade, cercados por um muro gigantesco, nem imaginam o que há além, e ainda temem os guardas que na maioria das vezes são cruéis com todos - até mesmo com crianças. Como poderia alguém viver assim? Por que estão ali? Por que estão presos? O que é a liberdade? Nada disso faz diferença mais.
