In the new world where humans had died off, the king followed an ancient practice. In this practice The name of girls were picked from a black box. They were given as sacrifices. And every year Janes coven would lose a girl.

"What are you afraid of" I screamed at him. He then in a flash had me against the wall.
"You don't yell at me" he said in a deathly low voice.
"Then answer me."
He look at me in the eye and for once I saw vulnerability but it was then glossed over by anger.
"Go back to the room. No more wandering" he let go of me and went down the hall.
I just stared at his back getting smaller and smaller.
