Niall Horan was your typical not too popular, but not necessarily a nerd either kind of high school kid. He had a lot of people he hung around regularly and around 3 to 4 close friends. Being openly gay wasn't ever really a problem, there was the occasional slur but nothing he couldn't handle, I mean who cares anymore? ITS 2015.
Harry Styles, again, was your typical high school kid, with the exception that he was one of those stereotypical popular guys. y'know, shit ton of friends and all up himself. He didn't bully other kids like most expect jocks like him to do, no he was just a clumsy idiot to be honest.
Niall and Harry didn't ever cross paths really, there was no need for them to. Harry was in year twelve - a year above Niall - and in another block of students so they never had any reason to interact. That was until they got assigned as partners on a school camp.

She was his older sister, studying law in London while he was stuck in Florida. Gemma pesters him a lot... she asks questions about his non-existent sex life and his 'current status'. Harry was legit done with people making fun of his virgin ass so he tells her that he's dating one of the hottest guys EVER in his school. Gemma believed him. She didn't ask much and he did make it clear that he won't share much info on his boyfriend who doesn't really do social media.
