At an early age, Olivia Saunders has been forced into being absolutely NOTHING but perfect. Perfect appearance, perfect behavior, perfect outfit, perfect everything. So there's absolutely no doubt to her that for her freshman year of high school, she's going to be queen of the school newspaper. That's how she's always been. But Mr. Masters, the smooth, snobby head of Harper Weekly, has other plans for her. She's put into a partnership with a boy she despises: Tom Thatcher, a boy a part of Thomas C. Harper High School's popular pack. Although he's a bit different from the others. He does his own thing, on his own time. He's very laid back, and doesn't really care too much about being perfect. This is what infuriates Olivia the most. But what happens when Tom shows her that there's no need to be perfect? That the best form of beauty is when there are human flaws? And what happens when Olivia finally tries to get out of her mother's iron clutches? Will Olivia become the person she wants, instead of what her mother has forced her to be? Or is she too scared to break the mold?

"And it only took a day. Just one simple day for me to realise that people aren't who they seem. They're not always who they say they are, and although in some forms it's awful, sometimes it can be beautiful too. This person beside me hid their life away so they could have a better one, for himself and his mother, and I truly don't think his sacrifices have been duly noted. Because he's a good person; a beautiful one. It took a day for me to fall for the quiet boy in my English class. The boy with a hidden arrogance and a talent for acting. The boy who has black hair and blue eyes, which fall slightly darker as he gets more tired. Eyes which right now are trained on me." Willow Ford is a sarcastic, snarky, almost-seventeen year old, with a slight attitude problem. Leo Blakely is quiet, refined, and lives a life full of secrets. And when the two clash during an accidental lock-in at their high school, it's funny how much can happen in just one day.
