"Be your own anchor." This is the story of Maria Mason. Maria started her freshman year with little hope for the future. She was sad, lonely, and broken. Her anxiety and depression were getting worse each day. After months of begging her parents, they finally allowed her to apply to the school of her dreams, and she got in. Maria got the chance to do something she thought she'd never do. At the age of fourteen, Maria left everyone she'd ever known in Louisiana and moved to Los Angeles. It was a new beginning for her, but she wasn't sure if it would be a better one.

A voice asked. "You'll catch a cold, why didn't you take your jacket?" I spun around, and my eyes locked with Marcus's eyes. "Hey," I said, my voice a little trembling from the cold, and I wrapped my arms across my chest, my shoulders stiffening. I had not expected that it would be so cold. My fingers dug into my sleeves, and I shifted my weight from one foot to the other, trying not to shiver too obviously. Marcus didn't answer right away. He just looked at me for a second, then stepped forward. Silently, he slid off his jacket and placed it over my shoulders, and I ensnared it tighter around me immediately. It was still warm from his body. The inside smelled... citrusy?
