The narrators for this story change periodically, and are indicated by the name in the chapter heading. The story's main protagonists, Anna and Hilde, are first met as children in my first book, Hilrean Rite, and readers would probably benefit from reading that story first. Some of the characters they meet in this tale are met as children in my second book, the Seventh God, which might also be useful reading but is not so essential (although a couple of references and a few paragraphs of text might be a bit confusing if the Seventh God is skipped.) This story contains references to arrest, execution, sacrifice, lots of blood, alcohol abuse, kidnap, violence, and assassination.
