"No?" Rarilee repeated, confusion dripping from the word.
"No, because boys never understand. They just don't have the knowledge or devotion to help you in any way, especially in your situation."

Aspiring chef artist and sixteen year old Rarilee Blaze Tolonez was the old-schooled daughter of a compassionate mother and a hardworking father. She stood on her own two feet, and with the help of her melodramatic lawyer-to-be best friend, her life resembled a comfortable normality. This is, of course, before the heavens decide to strike their most dangerous, powerful source directly onto her innocence, almost taking the life out of her.

Normality takes a sharp turn into insanity. No matter how many times the doctors and nurses reiterate that she is in good condition, Rarilee cannot ignore the uneasiness in her gut and the severe pain in her scarred temples. She cannot seem to trust her own conscience either, and the screaming voices shadowing her do nothing but intensify the conflicting burden.

But what Rarilee does not seem to understand is that there is only one person in the entire human race that can save her from the extremes. The only one that can cure her from the confusion and the pain. And that was him.

I squeak, attempting to get air into my constricted lungs. He sighs, the warm air brushing against my neck, sending goose bumps skittering across my skin. "I'm not going to tell him you intend to escape. How can I when I plan to do the same thing?" My mind whirls as I attempt to understand what he is saying. He wants to escape? But he is one of Lucifer's most trusted. How does that even happen? He's lying. "I'm not lying. I needed him to trust me or I would never find a way to get out." "You know a way out? Wait. Did you just read my thoughts? How did you just read my thoughts? I thought you were a shield!" Once again his sigh of exasperation leaves goose bumps on my skin and a shiver running down my spine. "I am a shield. It just so happens that I'm a reader too. Yes, that is possible. Obviously. Now can I let you go, or are you going to try and kill me again?" © 2013 by Froggie27. **3RD PLACE WINNER OF THE 2017 CRAYON AWARDS** Third place winner of the 2017 Lilac Awards From the beginning, I knew what I was in for. I knew that this scenario would end one way or another. I wasn't stupid. Nobody put a gun to my head and forced me to play this game of cat-and-mouse. But I will say, I never pictured that this would occur. I stood there, my brother's silver Smith and Wesson in my hands, directing it at my deadly target. My eyes bore into his, his indicating no sign of emotion, while mine were filled with horror. "It's you," I said, my voice unsteady. He took another step closer to me, his hands in the pockets of his trench coat. A malicious grin formed upon his face. His signature expression. "Surprise," he replied before sauntering forward to finish what he started six months ago. ♠♠♠ Six months after Skyler Williamson is abducted and tortured in the woods by a serial killer, she deals with the repercussions of her unfortunate ordeal. Crippling anxiety, the results of unknown misfortunes, bubble up to the surface and rest in the foreground of her mind. And Skyler's prescribed medication can only help to a certain extent. Repressed memories of the past collide with the present, causing Skyler to be unable to distinguish what is real and what is not. When two teenage girls turn up dead, Skyler finds it is up to her to catch the man who's behind all of this... "How do you feel now, Morgan?" She says, more pointing something out than asking a question. She grabs hold of my wrists and tightens them. If I could see properly I could swear I see them turn purple. "I could beat you to the bone, right here, right now, till you die from your injuries. But, I won't. You will die. Maybe not today, maybe not in a month, but you will." Well, obviously I'm going to die. Humans don't live forever. "Wonder why?" "No, and I really don't care." She answers anyway. "Because we have the power, the people, and the weapons to do it. Face it, you're defenseless against us." I feel some blood flooding my mouth, so I, being a perfectly nice person, spit it in her face. That doesn't faze her at all. "I have the strength and intelligence, something you clearly don't have. Whatever y'all do to me, it won't break me. I will put up a hell of a fight before losing. I will fight, and I will win." I turn over and look at her fellow companions. "Even if I die doing it." "Is that a risk you're willing to take?" ____________________________________ 17 year old Morgan Peters is an average girl living life.
