Gerard isn't from New Jersey.

Or America.

Or Earth.

Gerard is from some planet out in some Galaxy during some time. He's still figuring out the details.

But it's kind of difficult to work out those details if your only source of transportation has crashed on some lawn of some kid from some planet.

So Gerard stays with Frank until he can find out where and when he is, and his relationship with the boy blossoms into something more then friendship.
