Cassandra Amelie is a six. She lives in Pamolia, a district where the upper castes are the majority and lower castes are the minority. The lower castes stick together. Cassandra's family has always struggled, but when a letter arrives at her doorstep, Cassandra is given the opportunity of a lifetime. The chance to be whisked away to a palace full of Victorian ballgowns and lavish bedrooms and glittering jewelry. If she makes it to the end, she'll marry one of two princes, and become a One, the highest caste in the country. The choice should be obvious. But Cassandra has things holding her back, making her hesitate. With war threatening them, and famine inevitable, will Cassandra be able to leave the life she loves for a life full of cameras and smiles?
