Amelie doesn't believe in happy endings. True love? A myth. Everlasting happiness? A joke. And don't even get her started on marriage. 
Unfortunately for her, her father doesn't quite share her views. Determined to see her securely settled, he throws suitor after suitor in her path. 
And so the Suitor Game is created. A game Amelie plays in order to deter every man after her hand. It is a way of ensuring that she dies an old maid - which is precisely what she wants. But there's a catch. Every time she deters a suitor, her already fragile health seems to deteriorate. 

Can any man find a way into her heart and win the suitor game? And when Amelie meets a mysterious man, a suitor from a far away land, will her blinding hatred lead her to make the biggest mistake of her life? Can this mysterious suitor possibly save her not only from a dreary marriage, but from herself?
