Emilia Sakunami is a young girl with a life that's not her own. Yes, it's her life, but she's not in control of it. At the age of five she was diagnosed with cancer and since that day she's been trying to live her life to the fullest. There was one special person who did that for Emilia, a young half French half Japanese boy named René Tamaki Richard de Grantaine Suoh. The two become quick friends and when Tamaki finds out what is really wrong with Emilia he wants to be there for her.
But when Tamaki is fourteen, his grandmother offers his mother financial security, do to her own health problems, in return for relinquishing all control and visiting rights over her son to her. Accepts this offer, Tamaki is forced to leave France and go live in Japan, leaving his mother and his dear Princess Emilia behind.
It won't be until two years later when the two old friends finally get to meet once again. With her life close to its end, Emilia wants to see Tamaki one last time. Even if it's just for a slight second.
