She's able to control her dreams, but if she dies in the dream, she'll also die in reality. Because of the accident, she can't remember how to use that ability. Her ability also brings her problems. She's been watched for years by the creature called "Nightmare". He has noticed Melanie's memory loss, and that she can't control her dreams because of that.
