Portrait of a Landscape - October Chapter 1

Sculptor, Hugh Borne is recovering from a recent divorce. His wife and son have gone to live in Paris. He is invited by Elise and Jack Rockshaw - old friends from art school days - down to St. Ives, in Cornwall so that he can get away from London and find the peace he needs to complete a commission.

Jack Rockshaw is a photographer and is on a six month teaching contract at CUNY. He becomes infatuated with a student, Amy. Both are disillusioned with the greed and corruption in the art world and look to escape through their relationship.

In St. Ives, Elise introduces Hugh to Jonah, a promising young artist. Hugh finds himself drawn to the boy who helps him understand the lost relationship with his own son, now in Paris with his mother.

The novel unfolds over the course of 30 chapters. The narrative is structured so that the reader experiences the unfolding of events and the lives of the characters as if looking at pictures in an art gallery.
