Zoe is 12 years old and lives by herself. No one knows this, she hides it from public because she hated the orphanage. When she ran away from the prison, she made sure she had the money her parents have left for her so when she 'moved' to Darwin, a quiet place in Australia; she won't be caught. Her "boss", Jess is the only person who knows that Zoe is an orphan who escaped. Knowing what happened, Jess lets her work for her in a coffee shop she owned. Now Zoe is living a regular life by herself going to Darwin middle school and studying grade 7.
She sometimes does get suspicious looks from the popular guy in her class but does nothing about it. When her birthday finally arrives, she decides to spend the day with Jess in the city, but, fate has other things planned for her.
