PROLOGUE

“Hand me the shovel Josh,” I whined for the fifth consecutive time that afternoon. “What for, Bell? I am nearly done building the sand castle. Just give me another minute,” Josh huffed, clearly annoyed by my constant intrusion. This boy is too stubborn for his own good. Not anything I am not acquainted with though. It’s been seven years since we first met. Aunty Isa had just moved into the house down the lane in our neighbourhood and I was ecstatic at the prospect of having someone to play with at the age of seven. Our friendship was just meant to be. We just clicked the first time we met and so here we are seven years later, two best friends building a sand castle at the age of fourteen. Our maturity must be questionable at this point but that is how we are; two crazy earthlings practically joined by the hip. “What are you grinning at you goof?” Josh wriggled his eyebrows and I giggled harder. “Ah! I see you find this quite amusing Bell. Well, good thing I know how this situation could be funnier” an evil smirk made its way to his face. I knew exactly what was coming next and instantly sprung to my feet and bolted down the shore, with the course sand crunching beneath my delicate feet. I gasped for air as a smile broke onto my face, but a horrified shriek ensued as I realized that Josh was hot on my heels. His slender arm wrapped around my petite waist just when I lunged forward; sending us both tumbling down in the cool grainy sand....

Life seems pretty great at this point. But what happens 3 years down the line, when the ups and downs of high school life have drifted the once inseparable couple apart?
