"The sand is cold beneath my feet. The tide's almost in and I'm about to turn the corner, I'm about to see him again and when I do, he's everything I remembered him being. Sam, with his freckled nose and dark, dark, auburn hair and those star-filled stormy-grey eyes that held a thousand words he didn't know how to say."

16 year old Cecily met Sam a long time ago. It was a warm enough day and they struck up conversation on how warm-enough a day it was. She was 12 and he was 11 and they were quick friends that day on the beach. They spent their summer together, riding their bikes down Ergot Lane and holding their breath as long as they could under Barton Bay. They were inseparable and when Sam has to go, as he and his family were only staying in the town for the summer, two hearts are broken. They keep in touch through letters and when Sam and his family move back in town, everything changes.

This is the story of a boy and a girl who shared a friendship that bloomed into love.

A reflection. Do you like yours, love yours or hate yours? There's many people in this world who dislike theirs, not because of the physicality that they see in a mirror, but because they know what's lurking behind the eyes that stare. So much can be seen in yourself from your own pair of eyes, things that others don't seem to see. Do you know why that is? That's because no one knows you better than you know yourself. A pair of eyes could seem so kind, warm and innocent to the world, but only yourself could know the true darkness behind them. There's one person in this world who knows exactly what I'm talking about. He knows the infuriating, angering feeling of the painful suffering he experiences when his own eyes meet his reflection's. Deadly, severe, menacing: is what he sees. Everyone who looks into them simply see a bright pair of ocean eyes. Blue. That's all they see. But only himself knows he's drowning in the tidal waves of their deep ocean. And no one cares enough to notice, to help, or to save. Until her. She used to think fire was more murderous than ice. Little did she know, that would all change at first glance. She saw the eyes, she noticed their blue, she stared for a second too long, and now she knows that there's no going back. He'll claim her. ~If I take a step away from him, he takes a step closer to me. If I run, he'll find his way back.~ ~I'm trying my goddamned hardest to not act on the ache I'm feeling to place my lips on hers, just to have a little taste, because I don't want to appear as some sex-driven teenage boy who just wants to claim her body. Because I don't. I want to claim her heart.~ *Mature content: Strong language, aggressive behaviour, sexual content etc.* Note: Don't skip past the prologue. A bit of the dialogue or description in the first half of the book may seem slightly immature; I'll have to edit that when I get the chance. Started: 31/08/18 Completed: 02/04/19

"The moon's really beautiful, if you think about it," I blurted. "Yeah?" he asked, mild amusement and curiosity mingling in his voice. "Yeah," I confirmed. "It's just- there's something about the moon that's ethereal. I don't really know how to describe it, but it's a constant in life. You can't always see it, but you have to trust that it's out there somewhere. And when you can see it, it's all bright and shiny and overcomes the darkness." I paused, searching for the right words. "I don't know. I guess it's a reminder that there are good things out there, even if you can't see them... And it's cool to think that someone hundreds of miles away is staring at the exact same moon as you. It makes me feel not so alone in life." Turning my head, I saw him staring at me intently with a thoughtful look on his face. "Too deep for a Friday night?" I laughed nervously, feeling my face grow hot. And this was precisely why I didn't go to parties. He shook his head and seemed to snap out of his daze. "It was deep in a good way." *** SHE was quiet & left out. ••• ❝If I can count every grain of sand in the shores of the beach we made a trip to twice a month; if I can trace lines from the first star all the way to the very last star in this galaxy that we both live in; if I can collect every single drop of water that's been touched with moonlight; if I can pick every single petal from all the flowers that has been kissed by a ray of the sun -maybe then, maybe, I will be able to tell you exactly how far and how long this feeling runs. Maybe then I will be able to tell you it is limitless. And that is how you make me feel, Daniel. You make me feel limitless.❞ ••• In which I, Deborah Barclay, fall in love with Daniel Harrington when we're just kids, and have no idea how to fall out. ••• ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ©LITERALIGHT
