Carol Stevens is the reincarnation of the famous leader Savannah, who can breathe fire. Carol isn't a fire breather, but she can fly. She doesn't have a clue about any of this though. All that changes when Carol discovers the world of Kataren through a book portal, where everyone has a gift like her. But when Carol survives a terrible explosion that tears her apart, she loses her gift to Savannah, who has returned from Carol's body with no heart and two gifts. With no part left of Savannah, Carol becomes an ordinary girl again, destined to an eternal life inside Kataren.
