Harvey "Hiccup" Haddock is a former member of the army. When an explosion goes off during a field mission, he loses his lower left leg and his right leg is now numb from the knee down. He has a prosthetic for his left leg and a brace for his right. Now dependent on crutches, he's not sure what to do anymore...until he finds out his twin brother Jack was forcibly drowned for his place in the Avatar Program on Pandora. Hiccup was given his brother's place, and the former soldier accepted. Hiccup had helped Jack study for the program, and was well-read on the Avatar Program and even knew a bit of the Na'vi language. As his only son, he is next in line for the chiefdom which wouldn't be a problem, if he wasn't a runt. Viking's believe that a name is what strikes fear into your enemies. Hiccup's obviously doesn't. The name is given to those who won't survive their first winter. Those who don't belong, those who will not be any more than a burden. Hiccup isn't an exception to this. I mean, sure he survived his first winter, and the next fifteen. But he caused problems, not on purpose. Things just happened when he was around. First when he was six, and a nearby furnace blew up when he lost his temper. Then when he was eight, nine, eleven. These strange happenings kept occurring, and nothing he did helped. Everything he did, everything he tried had some way of turning back on him. For the longest time he believe that the God's cursed him.
