Influences on this story include fairy tales (especially Beauty & the Beast), the movie "While You Were Sleeping," the miniseries "Kingdom Hospital,"  the tales of Ivanhoe, Tristan & Isolde, the comic series Fables, the video Game "The Wolf Among Us," the tabletop roleplaying games Changeling: The Dreaming & Changeling: The Lost, and various personal experiences.

Chapter 1: Definitely a Nightmare- This girl appears in a strange land, and is trying to find her way home. This boy is there to help her, but after looking for maps, the entire time the boy tells her that this world she now lives in is all just a dream. Chapter 2: The Real World- This boy loves doing missions. Especially the dangerous kind. His partner begs to differ. She is more of the "I'd like to live my own life thank you" kind of girl. She prefers to goof off instead of doing what matters most to the boy, please the Boss. Chapter 3: A Dreams Limits- Velly is concerned about her boyfriend. She isn't the one to always complain about her love life, and most of the time she doesn't have to... but ever since that one day Travis tried to assure her that she was more important to him than his job, he nearly decided to skip work a couple times. Velly try's to show that she doesn't mind, but her boyfriend trying so hard to prove her wrong and work all of the sudden becoming even more difficult than it intends to, sometimes that little feeling tugging inside her begins to seem to be making the most since. Even when it means seeing family that you thought you'd never see again. Chapter 4: A Dreamers Mistake- After finally meeting up with her twin sister again, Velly couldn't have been happier. Though, she knew she was going to have a LOT of explaining to do afterwards. Along that, Amber is actually developing something for Oliver. But she doesn't quite understand it. For some reason though she is finding Oliver a wee bit suspicious. Just when she thought it was just Amber thinking too much into it, she over hears Oliver talking to someone... but who? This is an experimental project I'm working on, a collection of modern "fables, fairytales, and folk stories" told in a frame story (a traditional story that houses sub-stories, like 1,001 Nights or the Pentamerone). The frame story follows a group of beauty pageant contestants who, in an attempt to make the contest more palatable to an increasingly polarized audience, compete to tell the best folk tale. I don't want this project to reflect solely my views--I want it to be more communal, which is why I'm opening these stories up for comments! If there's something you like, dislike, or just think is weird ("why do all the lions have Biblical names?"), feel free to drop a comment saying as much, and I'll see if I can incorporate them into the final version in the form of reactions from the audience, judges, or other contestants :)

This is a second view point from my original story - A Different Virus - Heartfire. I highly advise reading the original book first. Intro: Laura was a happy child without a care in the world. She loved her parents and life was perfect. Nothing seemed like it could go wrong. People started talking about a bad flu that was spreading and sending some into a coma. Her parents grew worried and stocked the house in case of a pandemic. Months later another virus appeared. Her family was shocked when the news people started reporting that zombies were actually real and not just part of a horror movie. They were appearing in every country. Her parents reassured her that none of the zombie sightings had been anywhere close to them. Her life is turned upside down when her father ends up in hospital with the bad flu and mother exiles her upstairs for her safety. She was never allowed downstairs again. Weeks pass and the streets become deserted with the exception of the red eyed zombies that wandered around. One night she notices a swiftly moving figure with glowing blue eyes in the street below. Should she call out or remain silent? Throughout the book, the main character tries to discover what it means to be alive as a 'lower being' in a new world. Originally, she believes herself to be human until an accident occurs, and she finds herself to be woken up in the middle of what she thought to be some sort of cosplay festival. Oddly enough, these strange creatures weren't human, which she quickly realized after being attacked and nearly killed. Now she's got to learn how to survive in this new, scary environment where everyone's out for her demise. I've learned a lot of the parts in this book relate to real-life events, places in the present, and the past. You'll see a lot of connections between actual human historical events and the goings on in this book. The main character is, above all, head strong and bold. She's unafraid of the social normal and any punishments that come when defying them. ----- My original caption for the story: I had a dream, and it was kinda awesome and slightly romantic. I'll try my best to write down what I remember.

Although she knows she knows at least one of the guys in her nightmare, she can't recognize him. She doesn't have much time to think about the nightmares though: she is the princess of her country. On top of that, she meets a golden retriever in the forest who seems to be attached to her immediately and the guy she has a crush on suddenly decides to take an interest in her, but he's not the only one. Another guy seems to follow her every step. Hate turns into love and love into hate when the guys aren't what she first thought they were. She has to make decisions while her situation isn't clear yet. The questions keep piling up and only a few are answered. Like why hasn't she had her first shift to her animal form yet, although everyone her age has? Why does she care about someone she thinks she hates? Long story short: drama, drama, and once again, drama. Will Louise be able to find out what she is, and what she wants?
