In a world where people are divided and must make a choice at an early age, sometimes they have no choice but to go their own separate ways.
On the day of her Choosing Ceremony, Alyssa Navarro knew it was her time to make her choice. But in the back of her mind, she wondered if she was really making that choice for herself, or for someone else. Born and raised in Erudite, Alyssa and her brother, Michael, grew up very close. A year older than she was, he chose to defect from Erudite to Dauntless at his own choosing ceremony.
Alyssa longed for nothing more than to be reunited with her brother, but reuniting with Michael also meant that she would once again be forced to see HIM-the young man whom she once had a kindled romance with for one night.
When it's finally time for Alyssa to choose, she follows both her heart and her brother's footsteps, and she chooses Dauntless. Not only does she end up reunited with her brother, but she also must face the young man who she once shared an impassioned night with-the same young man who unintentionally ended up breaking her heart.
Is it possible that a year's time apart changed the feelings they once had for one another? Will they, by some miracle, at least be able to restore the friendship they once had? With Alyssa's passive-aggressiveness towards him, and HIS newfound pride, reconciliation may not be so easy for them to achieve. With secrets, unresolved feelings for each other, and lack of previous closure, the two young adults will for certain find themselves on a wide-spread, emotional roller coaster.
