meaning; to leave hurriedly and secretly}

Phemie had always known that she was the bastard daughter of her own father’s mistakes. From the obvious partiality in their household to the disappointed looks her family gave her when she hadn't done as good as her brother on school tests. She knew that ever since she was born everything went wrong, making the household to go down in a spiralling mess of tears, drug abuse and screaming at one another.

During those years, Phemie was almost forgotten- to the point that she had to get a job as soon as she could just to buy enough groceries for her survive on. Until one day, her father got a very big promotion- making the family have to re-fit the jagged shards of glass that was their household back together. Everything soon returned to normal- at least that’s what everybody else around them thought, behind the curtains everything was still just as broken as it was before- just stuck back together with smiley face Band-Aids.

So Phemie did what everyone least expected.

She ran.
