My feet hitting the wet, mossy, forest floor with the moon glowing on the path ahead. I picked up speed along the curvy path, knowing it by heart. I went to rest against the trunk of a tall pine tree, my fingers playing with the dew covered grass besides me. I heard the rustling of the forest coming closer. I thought it was just another day. I thought I was just going for another night run. God was I wrong. ~~ I did this every night, as soon as everyone was asleep, as soon as I grabbed my jacket and headed out the door quietly enough to not wake everybody up. Headed for the ecosystem of trees leading from my little cottage of a house.

“Run Maeve! Run!!” I could hear Phoenix’s voice yell to me in pain as I dashed through the woods while branches smacked me. I had to run faster, I had to escape, whatever that creature was it wanted me. I felt my feet slow down and my breathing sped up and I felt a burning sensation in my chest. I couldn’t stop; I couldn’t slow down….RUN! I forced my feet to move faster as I heard wings flapping just a few feet behind me. I didn’t dare look back though; looking back might be my death at this point. ‘Stop running’… I heard a voice in my head say I tried to ignore it, it wasn’t me who was saying it, it was something else. ‘You have no chance….STOP!’ It screamed inside my head and I could already see myself slowing down and obeying to it. I knew I was going to cave in. My feat slowed down into a small jog until I finally stopped and started to catch my breath knowing I had done the wrong thing but I couldn’t fight it, whatever it was I felt it controlling me like nothing before. ‘Good girl’ I heard it say and almost on cue I felt big strong arms curl around my waist and I felt myself being lifted up into the air with extreme force and I let out a small scream. “Maeve, no!” I heard Phoenix’s voice yell to me from a great distance as I was being lifted into the air by something. As much as I hated it I had to look, I had to see what’s going on. I looked over not at the man’s face but what really caught my eye was the giant wings on either side of me which was causing me to fly. “Phoenix!” I yelled automatically. I heard the man with his arms around me chuckle as we descended farther into the sky, away from my only hope, my mate, Phoenix.
